Maison Martin Margiela for H&M

Well that is shocking news to me!It’s official that H&Ms latest designer collaboration will be with Maison Martin Margiela, making that one of H&M’s most avant garde partners yet. As we all know the swedish uber-brand has previously worked with about two design partners a year, including Karl Lagerfeld (2004), Stella McCartney and Viktor&Rolf (2006), Roberto Cavalli (2007) and most recently Marni, just to name a few. Margiela has always tried to maintain their image as a mysterious brand, which influenced the mainstream with its radical ideas and experiments with clothing.

This is the statement from Maison Martin Margiela making this collaboration official: ” We are very happy to present Maison Martin Margiela pieces with H&M, offering a new interpretation of our vision. The democracy of our fashion has always been at the centre of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further. We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.”

H&M’s creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch says: ” Maison Martin Margiela is one of the most important and influential fashion houses of the past three decades. I am so excited by this collaboration which will give fashion lovers around the world the chance to wear special pieces by Maison Martin Margiela. This collaboration will be a great and memorable fashion moment.”

I already talked to some of my friends who think this collaboration is somehow the downfall for Margiela, who as a fashion label always followed its own path, often outside the conventional fashion framework. I honestyl don’t know what to think of this yet, but I have to admit I am a bit excited, and don’t really want to judge before I haven’t seen the collections.

What about you guys? Would you queue up for Maison Martin Margiela for H&M?
